Torrential rain battered Buenos Aires on Sunday and the day’s football was the victim as only one of the scheduled matches was completed. In Bajo Flores, the pitch steadily worsened towards farcical levels but San Lorenzo managed to return to winning ways with a deserved 2-0 win over Boca Juniors. Gonzalo Verón proved to be the catalyst as the pacy striker crossed superbly for Martín Cauteruccio to head El Ciclón in front before the youngster added a superb solo effort shortly after.

Across the city in Victoria, Tigre hosted Lanús, and although they made it to half time, the decision was made to abandon the remainder of the match. Neither side had managed to find a breakthrough and they will reconvene in midweek to play the second half.

Later, the match between Arsenal and Independiente in Sarandí and River Plate’s home match against Estudiantes were suspended prior to kick off.

San Lorenzo  2 – 0  Boca Juniors
