Tweeting from his account @elgalgojonas, Jonás said: “Today I was given a medical discharge.

“Thank you very much to all who accompanied me at this time, especially my family, my parents, brothers, godmother, friends and @alemaglietti (his girlfriend).”

Speaking to Canal 26 in Argentina, Jonás added that they treatment had been difficult but he is now feeling 100% and is ready to start doing things again. One such activity is to play football, and El Galgo said that he intends to return to Newcastle in December.

Gutiérrez has remained a popular figure with supporters in Newcastle despite not playing for them since early 2013 and will receive a warm reception when he next steps into St James’ Park. His career at Newcastle appears over given that he was sent on loan to Norwich and even after initially undergoing surgery was told to look for another club.
