Manchester United’s reported interest in Argentina international, Enzo Pérez has been longstanding but fresh stories are suggesting that Louis van Gaal’s side will go back in for the 28-year-old in January and activate a £23.5 million release clause in his current deal with Benfica.
At the end of last season, Pérez was strongly linked with a move away from the Estádio da Luz, with Manchester United and Valencia the two sides most regularly mentioned. It was the end of one of the best season’s in Benfica’s history, winning a domestic treble and reaching the Europa League Final. Pérez then followed this up with a place in Argentina’s World Cup Squad and injuries in the tournament meant that the combative midfielder established himself in the starting eleven.
After such a successful season a transfer appeared imminent but Pérez signed a new deal with the Portuguese champions.
As part of this 4-year-deal, a £23.5 million release clause was included and with Valencia still interested, Manchester United may seek to rival them in January.
With countrymen, Marcos Rojo and Angel di María already at the club persuading Pérez would not be an issue. His talents either centrally, or as he played at the World Cup on the right would be very useful to van Gaal as he seeks to shore up his United side.
