It is understood that Gerardo Martino will considerably shuffle his side ahead of the friendly against Portugal on Tuesday at Old Trafford in order to take a closer look at those who did not feature against Croatia.
In the final training session in London before taking the train to Manchester earlier today, Martino lined up with a side made up of the players who did not play on Wednesday’s evening. Supposedly this is also simply due to the rest period to the starters but the fact remains that with Martino wanting to get a firmer idea of his best side ahead of the Copa America he still needs to experiment with formations and players.
Both reserve goalkeepers, Willy Caballero and Nahuel Guzmán were joined by Martín Demichelis, Nicolás Otamendi, Facundo Roncaglia, Jonathan Silva, Lucas Biglia, Javier Pastore, Nicolás Gaitán, Roberto Pereyra, Gonzalo Higuaín and Erik Lamela faced a side made up of West Ham’s reserve squad.
Meanwhile Lionel Messi and the rest of the squad recuperated at the team hotel ahead of travelling to Manchester.
Several of those players will undoubtedly play again especially given that the Portugal game is billed as Messi Vs Ronaldo but perhaps Biglia will return to central midfield and Higuaín will be given his shot in the number 9 position.
