Rodrigo de Paul scored his first competitive goal for Valencia to snatch a cup win over Rayo Vallecano. The 20-year-old midfielder slotted past David Cobeno in the 85th minute to complete the comeback for Los Che and put them firmly in control ahead of the second leg.
Alex Moreno had given Rayo the lead but when Corbeno fumbled a routine ball into the penalty area, Paco Alcacer tapped in a simple 70th minute equaliser leaving de Paul to hit the late winner.
Valencia welcome Rayo Vallecano to the Mestalla for the second leg but with the victory in Madrid, Valencia will expect to progress.
It has not been an easy start to life in Spain for de Paul after being sent off after a minute in his La Liga debut. Since then playing time has been hard to come by but the goal will be a real boost to the talented youngster.
