Auckland City moved on to the Quarter Finals in the Club World Cup with a penalty win over local Moroccan side, Moghreb Tetuán yesterday and are now one match away from facing San Lorenzo. First they must find a way past Algerian champions, ES Sétif but a potential clash with Edgardo Bauza’s Copa Libertadores champions awaits.
Yesterday’s match ended goalless and it was in fact Auckland’s Argentine striker, Emiliano Tade who was guilty of missing the best chance. The 26-year-old striker spurned a glorious opportunity in the second half but thankfully Auckland came out on top after the shootout.
The potential Semi Final showdown between Tade and his fellow countrymen makes for an interesting sub-plot as the Santiago del Estero born striker actually moved to New Zealand to study law.
