Liverpool’s long standing interest in Ezequiel Lavezzi might be boosted by Paris St Germain’s pursuit of fellow Argentine, Nicolás Gaitán from Benfica.
With the French champions currently under pressure from the UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations they are looking for ways to reduce their wage bill and with Lavezzi having fallen down the pecking order and on a hefty wage he is likely to leave Paris. Benfica’s Argentine midfielder, Nicolás Gaitán has already been lined up as a replacement for Lavezzi and this would leave the path open for Liverpool to negotiate a deal.
The Express are reporting that Liverpool may be able to secure the signature of Lavezzi for as little as £8 million as Brendan Rodgers seeks to bolster his forward line.
The 29-year-old has been linked with a move away from Paris for a year now with Liverpool and a host of Italian clubs linked with him. Likewise, Gaitán has found himself the subject of speculation for the best part of two years.
Three years younger than Lavezzi and recently called up to the Argentina squad by Gerardo Martino, Paris St Germain are looking to refresh their squad but that will certainly come at an expense. Gaitán’s buy-out clause is reportedly €30 million so it remains to be seen if Paris can get around their financial difficulties to sanction this.
Given the amounts of money that Liverpool have spent £8 million for a player as experienced and dependable as Lavezzi would seem like very good business.
