After the strange excitement of Boca against Racing, River Plate’s preseason friendly against Estudiantes served as a reminder of just how dull these events can be. Marcelo Gallardo opted to rest several of his first eleven with next Saturday’s opening superclásico obviously on his mind and without the threat of the likes of Pisculichi, Gutiérrez and Sánchez River were not at their best. As they were against Independiente, Estudiantes still looked a little short of ideas and Mauricio Pellegrino will be hoping that his side find some creativity and goals before the start of the season.
