River Plate took a deserved lead from their first leg victory over San Lorenzo but could yet be made to pay for a strong of missed chances that allowed El Ciclon to leave the Monumental still very much alive in the tie. Teo Gutiérrez was guilty of several missed chances in the first as Sebastián Torrico denying him on each occasion.  The one time that Torrico was beaten, the ball bounced against the crossbar, as it did again when Jonathan Maidana thumping header came back off the frame. San Lorenzo had some presentable chances of their own after the break but with time running out, Carlos Sánchez finally found the way through when his powerful shot had too much for Torrico and squirmed under the keeper’s body. The sides will meet again next week in Bajo Flores and the Copa Libertadores champions have it all to do if they are to overturn River’s advantage.

River Plate  1 – 0  San Lorenzo
