Lanús’ hopes for the Torneo 2015 have already taken a blow after new signing, SebastiánLeto has been taken into hospital following an accident in the club gym that saw a dumbbell land on his head. After initially being sent home, Leto was complaining of discomfort and was then taken to hospital with a suspected fractured skull. While they are still waiting for confirmation it is likely that an operation will be required and Leto will miss three to four months of the season.
The 28-year-old, who has just returned to Lanús after leaving the club for Liverpool in 2007, was working in the gym when the accident occurred. Leto was one of the marquee signings for El Granate this summer but it looks as though Guillermo Barros Schelotto will be deprived of his quality for the foreseeable future.
Team doctor, Donato Villani said: “We will surelyhavetooperateandthe recoverywill takehimaboutthreetofourmonths.”
He is currently in intensive care while they wait for some swelling to go down and although his life is not in danger, it is expected that the test results will reveal a fracture that will require immediate surgery.
Leto’s spell with Liverpool was brief after issues with his passport and since then he has played for Olympiacos and Panathinaikos and most recently Catania. Still only 28, Leto was a great signing for Lanús to bring back at this stage of his career and it is a bitter disappointment that this return will now be delayed.
