Boca Juniors’ Libertadores campaign got off to a perfect start yesterday evening against Chilean side, Palestino in the stadium of Unión Española. Goals from Andrés Chávez and Sebastián Palacios provided Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s side with the valuable away three points and given the good fortune of Boca’s favourable draw they look in good shape for qualification.

Victory over the much-smaller Palestino is naturally expected if you are Boca and although the Chileans did enjoy some decent passages of play and create some opportunities the superiority of Boca eventually told. Shortly before half time, a patient spell of passing culminated in a threaded pass by Leandro Marín and the pacy, Andrés Chávez poked the ball beyond the goalkeeper for the lead.

The second goal after 68 minutes again used the pace of one of Boca’s front men, only this time it was the hero from the weekend, Sebastián Palacios. The 23-year-old burst beyond the Palestino defence and calmly slotted the ball into the net.

With the rest of Group Five being Montevideo Wanderers and Zamora of Venezuela, few would bet against Boca qualifying comfortably for the knockout stages.

Palestino  0 – 2  Boca Juniors
