A day after Gustavo Bou netted his second hat-trick of this year’s Copa Libertadores, Estudiantes’ 23-year-old centre forward, Guido Carrillo repeated the act. The highly rated youngster, for whom a move to Europe seems only a matter of time, scored three times to brush aside Barcelona of Ecuador in the opening Libertadores group match for Estudiantes.

It has been a good start to 2015 for Estudiantes – a 100% record from their two league matches and now a convincing home win from their Libertadores opener. Last night’s result never really appeared in any doubt and after a strong start, Mauricio Pellegrino’s side took the lead after fifteen minutes. Israel Damonte’s long range effort was spilled by the baseball cap wearing Máximo Banguera (even though it was at night) and Carrillo pounced on the rebound.

Before half time, the lead was doubled. A cross from the left was met powerfully by the forehead (and shoulder) of Carrillo and flew into the net to give Estudiantes a deserved two-goal cushion.

In the 74th minute, he completed his hat-trick with a close range finish and Estudiantes saw out the remaining twenty minutes comfortably to leave them top of Group Seven.

Estudiantes  3 – 0  Barcelona
