Argentina under-20s have just been crowned South American champions but the under-17 side have plenty of work to do if they want to emulate their seniors judging by their opening day defeat to Ecuador. Jhon Pereira opened the scoring after 21 minutes and Los Pibes, who won the competition two years ago on home soil, were unable to reply. With two minutes remaining, Pereira and Anderson Naula cut through the Argentina defence with the utmost ease once more leaving Naula to tap in a second. San Lorenzo youngster, Germán Berterame slid in a 89th minute consolation but Argentina were unable to salvage a point. There is no time to dwell on the defeat as they face Uruguay on Sunday night but Miguel Angel Lemme will need to significantly tighten up the defence if they are to make any waves in the tournament.
