Racing and Gustavo Bou in particular, had found the Copa Libertadores rather simple before last night. Two wins out of two and Bou already had six goals (more than last year’s top scorer after the entire tournament) but Peruvian side, Sporting Cristal provided a wake up call for Diego Cocca’s side, claiming a somewhat surprising 2-1 win in Avellaneda. The visitors took the lead after a goalless first half when Carlos Lobatón slotted in after great work on the right from Irven Ávila but Racing hit back with a superbly worked set-piece. The dangerous Bou stood over the freekick on the edge of the box and as the Peruvian defence expected a vicious shot he rolled it to the feet of Washington Camacho standing close to the wall and his lay-off was smashed into the back of the net by Brian Fernández. With Racing pushing for a third consecutive win, Cristal were awarded a soft penalty and Lobatón sent Sebastián Saja the wrong way to roll in the winner. Racing still lead Group Eight but there remains work to be done.
