Osvaldo nets twice as Boca thrash Zamora (VIDEO)

Boca Juniors enjoyed the easiest of Copa Libertadores evenings last night in La Bombonera sweeping aside Venezuelan side, Zamora to top group five. The five-goal margin could, and perhaps should, have been more and although on-loan striker, Daniel Osvaldo celebrated a brace, he was the most guilty of failing to add to the tally.

Boca had already stamped their authority on what is a very weak group with two victories from their opening games and it took just seven minutes against Zamora to do the same. César Meli rifled in the opener from the edge of the box and shortly after Nicolás Lodeiro added a second, smashing in from Meli’s smart knockdown.

Before half time, Federico Carrizo notched a third when he cut inside from the left and fired a well struck shot into the far corner and it was beginning to look as though it could get very embarrassing for Zamora.

Dani Osvaldo appeared to be the only player who didn’t pack his shooting boots as he had already had one goal chalked off for offside and had another chance cleared off the line when he should have scored after rounding the keeper.

However, the Southampton striker made amends after the break when he tapped in Juan Manuel Martínez’s cutback before dashing over to the dugout with the entire team for a quick photo.

With ten minutes remaining, Osvaldo made the most of Álvaro Forero’s naivety when he beat the goalkeeper to a through ball and ensured that he was clattered to win a penalty. He dusted himself down to stroke the ball past Forero and was soon after robbed of a hat-trick after having his second goal of the night disallowed for offside.

Boca will not have any easier matches in the Copa Libertadores than this one and so Osvaldo and company should enjoy themselves before things get tougher.

Boca Juniors  5 – 0  Zamora
