When bottom of the league host top there is usually only one outcome expected but Atlético Rafaela were able to claim only their second point of the season and end Rosario Central’s 100% start with a 1-1 draw in Santa Fe. La Crema took the lead after twenty minutes through Juan Eluchans’ penalty but it might have been worse for Central had he opted to show red to Jonathan Ferrari after he had tugged back Federico González with the striker through on goal. If Rafaela had already felt a little hard done by the failure to produce a red card for Ferrari, the sending off of Adrián Bastía midway through the half will have done little to improve the spirits. When Marco Ruben poked in Franco Cervi’s low cross just two minutes after half time it appeared that Central would once again claim three points from a losing position but Roberto Sensini’s side held firm for a point. They still sit bottom of the table, without a win in five, but this battling draw should provide some form of boost.
In La Plata, Estudiantes still weary from their Copa Libertadores exploits in midweek, were stunned by Banfield’s late comeback to snatch victory. Leandro Desábato’s towering header gave La Pincha the lead on the brink of half time and it looked to seal the three points for Mauricio Pellegrino’s side. However two minutes from time, Lucas Viatri converted his first goal for Banfield and deep into injury time, Ecuadorian Juan Cazares fired the winner to give Matías Almeya back-to-back wins for the first time since August.
