It is now perhaps time to admit that San Lorenzo are back. A sixth win from seven and this time in emphatic fashion over a potential title rival saw Los Cuervos go top of the table for the first time since winning the 2013 Inicial. Lanús arrived to the Nuevo Gasómetro in decent form but found a San Lorenzo side in rampant mood. A wonderful team move was finished by Mauro Matos five minutes before the break to give El Ciclón the lead and when Matos headed the second from Leandro Romagnoli’s free-kick barely a minute after the break the result was obvious. Not long after Matos was hauled to the ground by Maxi Velázquez and Julio Buffarini smashed in the resulting penalty allowing Martín Cauteruccio to cap off a great victory with a header five minutes from time.
In Mendoza, Independiente felt the absence of the national side’s newest star, Federico Mancuello as they dropped another two points, allowing Godoy Cruz to twice come from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw. Claudio Riaño put El Rojo ahead after just a minute, his second in two matches, but some characteristically wayward defending allowed Juan Garro to slot La Tomba level. With barely a minute on the clock in the second half, Independiente led again when Diego Rodríguez unleashed a vicious left-footed strike from distance against his former club. However, for the fourth time already this season, a rash challenge in the penalty area, this time by Jesús Méndez, gifted the opposition the opportunity to strike back. Leandro Fernández made no mistake from the spot and for the third time in 2015, Independiente’s failure to keep a clean sheet saw them drop two points.
