Javier Pastore’s future with Paris St Germain remains up in the air as his contract talks have stalled and although the 25-year-old enganche remains calm he admits to discussing a move to Real Madrid and that Carlo Ancelotti may well want to bring him to the Spanish capital in the summer.
Pastore is enjoying probably his best spell since his near €40 million move to Paris from Palermo but with just a year left on his five-year-deal, El Flaco admitted that any talks of an extension have halted.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo the former Huracán midfielder said: “The talks have been stopped. We’re not talking about extending my contract any more. I’m calm. I have a year left on my contract, and I’m going to keep my word and respect my contract.” Before ominously adding, “I don’t know if the talks will start again.”
Having just impressed on international duty for Argentina, Pastore would do well to think very carefully of any potential next move in his career. Paris St Germain are enjoying a successful season and are top of the French league and still in the Champions League with Pastore playing a key role in this. With so much still to play for Pastore remains focused on these immediate targets: “I’m calm. I have to finish this season in the best of ways — try to win as many trophies as possible with PSG. I still have a year left on my contract after that. I haven’t thought about leaving or staying, I live in the present.”
However, if contracts do not resume it is unlikely that even mega-rich Paris will allow Pastore to run his contract down. With this in mind, rumours of a potential transfer to Real Madrid and a reunion with Carlos Ancelotti have surfaced. Pastore himself appears to have thought about this and although he denies any offical or unofficial contact with Ancelotti or Madrid, Pastore appeared open to such a move.
“There arealwaysrumoursinthemedia.Italkedabitwithmy agent aboutRealMadrid, butinthatsense, fornowthere is nothing.Ancelottiis oneofthetechniciansthathasfollowedmesince Iwasyoung, he also wanted me at Chelsea.”
“Is he pushing to get me? Perhaps, because he knows me. Perhaps, because he also wanted me in the past. But he hasn’t told me personally.”
For now there is nothing, other than for Pastore to focus on his football and attempt to complete the most successful year in Paris St Germain’s history but until a new contract is signed this rumour will not disappear. At twenty-five Pastore is still young but equally cannot afford an ill-advised move if he really wants to stake a claim in the national side. There are many that would like to see the talented enganche take that place for Argentina but a move to Madrid where he may struggle for playing time could well see that hope dashed.
