Huracán’s failure to earn three points in the Copa Libertadores may ultimately be their downfall as last night in Parque Patricios they were held to a fourth consecutive draw in this year’s Copa Libertadores. Still unbeaten but crucially without a win, El Globo remain two points adrift of their most recent opponents, Universitario de Sucre in the second qualification spot.
The two sides played out an entertaining goalless draw in Bolivia last time out and although the return fixtures brought goals they could not be separated. Big Ramón ‘Wanchope’ Ábila gave the home side the lead ten minutes before the break but almost immediately Universitario were level. A clever scooped pass from Ruben De La Cuesta punished what was horrendous defending and Miguel Suárez volleyed the ball Marcos Díaz.
With two matches remaining, Huracán can still qualify but victory over closest rivals Universitario would have really put them in a good position. Group leaders, Cruzeiro are next to the Ducó and there is no more room for failure.
