Copa Libertadores champions San Lorenzo are still in with a shot of defending their title but their fate is out of their own hands now. Last night in São Paulo. Edgardo Bauza’s side claimed what would ordinarily be a decent away point to group winners, Corinthians but they are now reliant on the all Brazilian clash on matchday six to ensure their own progression.
Corinthians failure to win meant that Boca Juniors would be guaranteed the number one seeding as the only side in the competition with a 100% record and although the Brazilian side are already in the last 16, group two is still open.
San Lorenzo host Danubio next Wednesday needing three points but that alone may not be enough. Corinthians must also defeat local rivals, São Paulo or failing that draw but in this case San Lorenzo would need to defeat Danubio by four.
