Godoy Cruz ended a run of six matches without a win thanks to Jaime Ayoví’s second half header and Rodrigo Rey’s late penalty save. With Friday being a national holiday in Argentina there are none of the usual matches and this clash from Mendoza was brought forward to Thursday. Ayoví’s glancing header from a corner ten minutes after half time was almost cancelled out shortly before full time but Gervasio Nuñez’s firmly struck penalty was beaten away by Rodrigo Rey. The three points move Godoy Cruz up to 21st and crucially end a pretty wretched run while Sarmiento can still be fairly satisfied with their start to the Primera season.
