Estudiantes centre-forward, Guido Carrillo has been linked with a move to Europe almost since making his first team debut at nineteen during the 2011 Clausura but the rumours are now gathering pace as the 23-year-old striker has grown into one of the Argentine Primera’s best strikers. Inter Milan were reported to have scouts present at Estudiantes’ Copa Libertadores match this week and are readying a €10 million offer to beat off any other competition.
Carrillo has quickly established himself not only as the focal point of Estudiantes attack but the captain and leader of El Pincha and president Juan Sebastián Verón will know that this summer will most likely be when the club cash-in on their most valuable youth product.
Inter Milan’s chief scout, Massimo Mirabelli is understood to have been in La Plata on Tuesday night to see Carrillo score Estudiantes’ second in the 2-1 win over Independiente de Santa Fe in the Copa Libertadores and will remain in Argentina to continue monitoring the striker. Mirabelli is likely to see a 23-year-old in fine form as Carrillo currently leads the Libertadores scoring charts with seven goals and in his injury interrupted Primera season has another couple.
At 23, Carrillo has undoubtedly benefitted from his gradual rise in Argentine football and over four years has been able to develop far better than perhaps many who are plucked from domestic football before really getting any first team experience. The time is now right for Carrillo to move and Inter Milan know that they are far from his only admirers.
At a shade under 6 feet four inches, Carrillo is a big, powerful number nine, capable of playing up front alone but with underrated ability with the ball at his feet. In a side that he could continue to get regular playing time but with better service, Carrillo could flourish and prove to be a real asset to a European club. Inter Milan hope it will be with them but Borussia Dortmund, Anderlecht and Olympiacos have all registered interest.
