Rosario Central may have been drawing too many games in recent weeks but on Friday afternoon in Mataderos, Eduardo Coudet’s side returned to winning ways and with their unbeaten record still intact climbed back up to second. Nueva Chicago showed just why they are still without a win when their defence left the prolific Marco Ruben unmarked inside the six-yard box to head his ninth of the season shortly before half time and ten minutes before full time, Franco Cervi rifled in a second. Only a second win in seven for Central but importantly still unbeaten and ahead of a difficult run of fixtures they find themselves back among the leaders.

Tigre’s recent run of good form continued with a valuable draw away to Lanús, who themselves are not enjoying their best spell under Guillermo Barros Schelotto. It was the home side that led midway through the first half when Javier García in the Tigre goal failed to read Víctor Ayala’s long range strike and allowed the ball to bounce almost into the centre of the net. However, El Granate were unable to build on this slice of good fortune and it was the visitors who were the better side after the break. Ernesto Goñi headed Gustavo Alfaro’s side level with just minutes remaining to add to Lanús’ recent disappointments.

Finally in La Plata, Estudiantes celebrated a first win in eight matches and a first league win for new manager, Gabriel Milito as they came from behind to defeat Temperley. The lively Fabián Sambueza blasted the visitors in front from an acute angle after twenty minutes and they remained in front at the break. Milito’s team-talk obviously worked wonders and in the second half El Pincha moved up a couple of gears. David Barbona headed them level before substitute Diego Vera’s fine finish took all three points less than ten minutes from time. Estudiantes have had the distraction of the Copa Libertadores but their league form has not been good enough and this will hopefully spark a revival for Milito’s boys.

Nueva Chicago  0 – 2  Rosario Central

Lanús  1 – 1  Tigre

Estudiantes  2 – 1  Temperley
