With every performance that Matías Kranevitter, Emanuel Mammana and Sebastián Driussi make for River it would appear that their exit to Europe moves a step closer. The three have been impressing scouts for quite some time now and after some eye-catching roles in recent weeks, Atlético Madrid and Valencia have both made their interest known. If all of the River youth products are still at the Monumental after the coming European transfer window it would come as a surprise.
Atlético Madrid manager, Diego Simeone was first to publically speak of his admiration in the wake of Kranevitter and Mammana impressing in the superclásico. The former River boss and father to their teammate, Giovani Simeone said: “They areguysthat are playingverywell, and growinginaverycompetitivetournament. I have known Mammana since childhood and have followed Kranevitter since he played for River. My son is also there and we know what a good midfielder Kranevitter is. Both have a great future.”
Without being pressed on whether Atlético would firm up this interest it is no secret that scouts have been watching River closely in the past six months. El Cholo diplomatically added: “I thinkthat there aremany people involved workingtotry toresolvethesituationandaddingmore commentsdoesn’thelpmuch. We are here to collaborate in everything necessary and we are waiting obviously for a good result that everyone wants.”
However, they are not alone and another club with a River link are now readying offers according to reports. Roberto Ayala, the former River and Argentina defender, is now the sporting director at Valencia and he too is prepared to negotiate with River for all three players.
It is understood that midfielder Matías Kranevitter is the priority given that he already has a European passport and at 21 years of age and coming up to 50 appearances for River is furthest along in his development. However, Mammana, in particular is highly sought after in spite of his limited first team appearances. The classy defender already has a full international appearance and River will hope that any deal would see the 19-year-old remain at the Monumental for another year or two.
Forward Sebastián Driussi was a member of the Argentina under-20s that recently won the South American championships alongside Mammana and has grown into a key member of Marcelo Gallardo’s squad in 2015. The 19-year-old could perhaps benefit most from a prolonged period in the River starting eleven but if his development continues the inevitable move to Europe will follow.
While losing a talented group of youngsters, particularly if it happened midway through the 2015 season, would be a blow to River the financial situation mean that it would not be out of the question. President Rodolfo D’Onofrio would seek suitable compensation for some of the highly rated youngsters in world football but whatever is eventually paid might prove to be a snip if their potential is fulfilled.
