This year’s Copa Argentina threw up another surprise result yesterday afternoon when Primera B Metropolitana side, Chacarita Juniors dumped Newell’s Old Boys out of the competition in Banfield. A pretty strong Newell’s side led by Maxi Rodríguez followed Olimpo, Sarmiento and Godoy Cruz as early Primera casualties after goals from Elías Zapata and Jeremías Carabelli gave Los Funebreros victory. The win sets up a last 32 tie against All Boys and although the Copa Argentina is still not as highly regarded as perhaps it should, defeat is a blow to Américo Gallego.
