Argentina centre back, Nicolás Otamendi has reportedly already agreed to join Manchester United this summer and although there has been no such deal between the Premier League club and his current side, Valencia, the 27-year-old is expected to be a United player next season.
Argentine sports paper, Olé reports that after the Copa América a deal for Otamendi will be concluded with the only thing to be completed is the transfer fee between Manchester United and Valencia.
Valencia are loathed to lose Otamendi after a season where he has realised his true potential and been one of the standout defenders in La Liga. Powerful and uncompromising, Otamendi would appear a good fit for the Premier League but he will not come cheap. Valencia are no longer in the financial problems they were before billionaire Peter Lim bought them and with a buy-out clause in Otamendi’s contract of £35.9 million and a contract until 2019, Louis van Gaal’s side will most likely need to offer around that amount.
The Spanish club had remained hopeful of holding on to Otamendi after a season which should see them back in the Champions League next season, but those hopes are beginning to fade. The former Vélez Sarsfield defender is keen on a move to England and could push through the move. Spanish football expert, Guillem Baligue tweeted:
On Otamendi. Sources close to the player say his dream is to go to the PL and United will continue trying to get him. Valencia pesimistic
