Atlético Paraná defender Cristian Gómez has died after suffering a suspected heart attack during his sides Nacional B match against Boca Unidos. The 27-year-old collapsed and although he received medical attention on the pitch and was taken by ambulance to the nearby hospital, medics were unable to resuscitate the player.
The match was suspended until the officials heard further news and when they eventually received information that Gómez had died the match was postponed. The AFA have since announced that the rest of Sunday’s football, including River Plate’s visit to Tigre in the Primera will be suspended and rescheduled.
This follows the death of Emanuel Ortega who died two weeks ago following head injuries he suffered while playing for San Martín de Burzaco and prompted the postponement of all Argentine football last weekend.
