Vélez Sarsfield have largely been dreadful so far in the 2015 and the decision to replace the goals of Lucas Pratto and Mauro Zárate from recent seasons with Mariano Pavone looked to be a poor one. However, Vélez and Pavone produced something of a performance of old in a 3-1 win away to Banfield. Nicolás Bertolo gave Banfield the lead from the penalty spot but El Fortín responded admirably and it wasn’t long before Yamil Asad expertly curled Miguel Ángel Russo’s side level. 32-year-old striker Mariano Pavone has looked well off the pace for most of this season so far but produced two superb goals at the end of either half to ensure Vélez celebrated victory for the first time in four matches.
Colón hosting San Martín didn’t promise too much but ended up producing an exciting 2-2 draw. Braian Romero slipped the home side in front after quarter of an hour only for Pablo Vitti to acrobatically equalise less than 10 minutes later for San Martín. Romero grabbed his second of the game just before half time to regain the lead but Leandro Martínez’s smartly taken finish 10 minutes from time ensured a share of the points.
In Bahía Blanca, the clash between an Olimpo side who have won once and barely score any goals against a Nueva Chicago side, who are still winless promised even less. This failed to surpass those low expectations and ended goalless.
