In spite of their Copa Libertadores commitments, Diego Cocca named a full-strength Racing side for the clásico against Independiente and his decision was vindicated by the match winning performance from captain Diego Milito. In tandem with Gustavo Bou and backed by the trickery of Oscar Romero and Marcos Acuña they were too much for a Rojo defence that was once again all over the place. The only goal came via the penalty spot in the first half but in truth if chances had been taken it could have been more. To make matters worse, Independiente had Federico Mancuello sent off late on for the second time in successive matches and manager Jorge Almirón will find himself under immense pressure once again.
