Gerardo Martino has this evening cut his preliminary squad of 30 down to the final 23 for the Copa América. There are few surprises but Tottenham’s Érik Lamela retained his place in the final squad and was joined by debutant Milton Casco. Lamela is of course a supremely talented footballer but has rarely shown this in the past year in England and while Casco’s inclusion in the preliminary squad came as a surprise to many it will be even more of a shock that the Newell’s left-back will be on the plane to Chile.
Those who were cut from the 30 are Agustín Marchesín, Fede Fernández, Lucas Orban, Federico Mancuello, Enzo Pérez, Nico Gaitan and Maxi Rodríguez.
