Tevez will return to Boca for friendly but speculation about his future intensifies – Atlético Madrid and PSG hover

Carlos Tevez’s hugely successful season with Juventus ultimately ended in disappointment with the Champions League final defeat on Saturday but the 31-year-old striker must put that to one side as he is already with the Argentina squad in Chile for the Copa América. In spite of this, there is a huge amount of speculation over where El Apache will be playing his football next season with Juventus, Boca Juniors, Atlético Madrid, Paris St Germain and Liverpool all said to be vying for his signature.

Juventus remain keen to hold on to their top scorer despite the big-money of fellow Argentine, Paulo Dybala last week and with a year left on Tevez’s current deal that was always the most likely outcome. The player himself has made no secret of the fact that he wants to return to Boca to end his career and the assumption was that this would be at the end of his deal with Juventus. However, recent weeks have seen Tevez continously linked with an early return to Boca with the only obvious stumbling block being that the Argentine giants would not be able to afford anywhere near Tevez’s market value.

This has not prevented Boca from speaking publically about the possibility and this week whilst it was confirmed that Tevez would be returning to La Bombonera to play in a testimonial match for Sebastián Battaglia on July 8th, Boca president Daniel Angelici also suggested they will discussing his potential return.

“The return of Tevez from Juventus depends entirely on his own will. The doors of the club are open. It would be a dream, but we’ll have to see if it’s one that can be realised.

“It depends more on the player than the club. We will call Carlos to check and start talking.”

Boca are not alone in wanting to discuss this with Tevez with rumours that Juve are sending Sporting Director, Giuseppe Marotta out to Chile to try and persuade the Argentine to extend his deal until 2017. Juve’s reasons for wanting to keep Tevez in Turin are obvious: in 2014/15 the striker scored 29 times helping the Bianconeri to an Italian league and cup double.

Throughout the career of Tevez he has scored goals and won trophies so it is little wonder that there is a list of suitors if he becomes available. Diego Simeone has reportedly made Tevez his main transfer target and Paris St Germain are said to be willing to pay the forward €12million-a-year to switch to France.

A move away from Turin to any other European club would come as a surprise given that presumably it would be on a contract longer than a year and therefore any potential return to Boca would be delayed. An early return to the club where his career began would also seem unlikely given Juventus would need to essentially write-off a hugely valuable asset but Boca remain hopeful.

For now Tevez must concentrate on capturing the Copa América with Argentina but no doubt rumours of his future will continue to rumble on into the summer.
