Former Racing striker Luciano Vietto is on the verge of completing a €20 million move to Atlético Madrid, numerous reports have confirmed.
The 21-year-old has also been linked to Arsenal and Liverpool, but a move to the Vicente Calderón looks set to be finalised within the coming days after the player’s agent held advanced talks with the club.
Vietto only joined Villareal from La Academia last summer, but drew plaudits from all over Europe in his debut season in Spain after netting 12 goals in 31 La Liga appearances.
A move to the Rojiblancos would see the former Albiceleste U20 international link up with former manager Diego Simeone, who handed Vietto his debut for Racing against Lanús in October 2011 as a mere 17-year-old.
Joining the 2014 Spanish champions would also see the young striker line up alongside another young Argentinian striker – former San Lorenzo wonderkid Ángel Correa.
Simeone has made no secret of his admiration for both players in the past, and the prospect of seeing two of Argentina’s finest young talents link-up under Cholo is mouth-watering.
Both players have been tipped to lead the line for the Albiceleste in the future.
