Lucas Biglia is currently in Chile with the Argentina squad attempting to bring the Copa América trophy back to Buenos Aires for the first time since 1993 but speculation surrounding his club future continues to grow. After a successful season in Rome, newspaper reports suggest that Rafa Benítez is keen to bring the 29-year-old to the Bernabéu but could face competition from Paris St Germain, Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid.
According to Rome based newspaper, Il Messagero, new Real Madrid boss, Rafa Benítez is an admirer of Biglia having watched the Lazio midfielder at close quarters as manager of Napoli for the past two years and wants to add the combative Argentine as competition for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
Since arriving in Rome from Anderlecht, Biglia has been central to Lazio’s steady progress and with the Biancocelesti achieving third place in Serie A this season, they make a return to the Champions League. With this in mind club president Claudio Lotito has said that it would take an offer in the region of €25-30 million to negotiate.
A substantial fee but one that all those sides attributed with an interest would be able to afford. As an Argentine number five, Biglia is a decent ball-winner in the middle of the park but also an excellent passer of the ball and is able to initiate attacks and also join from deep, with a threat from range. Injury hampered his start to the Copa América but he is expected to regain his place in the starting eleven and a string of impressive performances in Chile will only see interest increase.
