Argentina’s third choice goalkeeper, Mariano Andujar has been ruled out for the remainder of the Copa América after breaking a bone in his wrist. The Napoli keeper has already left the camp and Argentina are waiting for Santos Laguna’s Agustín Marchesín to arrive in Chile as a replacement.
The AFA medical report released on Monday said: “While warming up for the match against Jamaica (on Saturday) Andujar felt a trauma in his right wrist. Medical tests showed he had a scaphoid (wrist) fracture.”
Andujar has not played a minute for Argentina at the tournament and was somewhat of a surprise inclusion ahead of Marchesín and Gerónimo Rulli in the final 23-man squad but his joy has been short-lived. Marchesín should arrive from México on Tuesday having initially been cut from the 30-man squad.
Argentina play Colombia in the Copa América quarter final on Friday night and as injuries go, one to the third choice keeper is perhaps the least disruptive that you could ask for.
