Former Argentina number 10 and manager, Diego Maradona has thrown his hat into the ring to succeed Sepp Blatter as FIFA president when the disgraced Swiss administrator steps down before a new election. The 54-year-old has been a fierce critic of Blatter and FIFA and will now look to lead the reform at the head of football’s governing body.
Uruguayan journalist and close-friend of Maradona, Víctor Hugo Morales announced Diego’s intentions when he tweeted:
Llamé a Diego Maradona para ver cómo estaba su papá. Me contó que iba a ser candidato a presidente de la FIFA y me autorizó a comunicarlo.
