For the second time in a year, Argentina come up just short in an international tournament and the wait for a trophy goes on after a goalless draw in the Copa América final against Chile resulted in an agonizing penalty defeat. Gonzalo Higuaín came closest to snatching the win late on but the Napoli striker blazed his spot-kick over the bar in the shootout and when Éver Banega saw his tame effort saved it left Chile’s Alexis Sánchez to clip in the winning goal. Chile celebrated their first ever Copa América while Argentina must now go away and dissect another bitter disappointment and build towards the future.
