The second half to River’s season started last night in San Juan but their hopes of a Copa Argentina ended in disaster with two red cards, an injury to new signing Nicolás Bertolo and victory for Rosario Central. Eduardo Coudet’s have already proved in 2015 that they are no soft touch and before the half hour mark they led with two of their most dangerous players involved. Franco Cervi was tripped by Jonathan Maidana and Marco Ruben stepped up to hammer the penalty past Marcelo Barovero to compound River’s misery after already seeing Bertolo limp out of his debut. It got worse still as Maidana picked up a second yellow just before the break and although they made a bright start to the second half Éder Álvarez Balanta soon joined Maidana in the changing room. The Colombian was adjudged to have elbowed Marco Ruben as they challenged for a header and although his arm was high, the decision looked harsh. Trailing by a goal and with nine men Jonás Aguirre ensured victory with a superb lob from range and Central await to see their opponents in the last 32.
