Caruso Lombardi would have been hoping that the mid-season break would have brought a change in fortune for his struggling Arsenal side but a Nicolás Mazzola goal two minutes from time gave Gimnasia a valuable away win. Arsenal’s last home match in the league brought their only win of 2015 but they were unable to maintain that momentum and with the game heading for a goalless draw Antonio Medina drilled the ball across the face of goal allowing Mazzola a simple close-range finish.
Later in La Plata, Estudiantes looked short of firepower and were held by a resolute San Martín side. Both sides threatened from set-pieces but with El Pincha having sold Guido Carrillo to Monaco and Diego Vera missing there was no real focal point to their attack. The goalless draw not a complete surprise in the circumstances and being the first game back after the break.
