Primera leaders San Lorenzo looked a little rusty after the break and were held by a Unión side, that despite losing striker Enrique Triverio remain a difficult side to beat. Sebastián Blanco was first to react after Nereo Fernández spilled Martín Cauteruccio’s shot and the on-loan West Brom attacker tapped in the opener but there was still time for the home side to find an equaliser before the break. With less than a minute remaining of the first half the Primera’s most dangerous set-piece specialist, Víctor Malcorra produced a superb free-kick to level the match and it was Unión that then had the better of the match. Neither could find a winner but Santa Fe has already proved to be a difficult away day and although Los Cuervos might be knocked off top spot, they remain in the title race.

Over in Quilmes, Banfield made a winning start to the second half of the season thanks to a debut goal by River Plate youngster, Giovani Simeone. The on-loan striker and son of Atlético Madrid manager Diego, leaped to head in Mauricio Cuero’s cross midway through the first half leaving the scrambling Walter Benítez unable to prevent the ball sneaking in off the post. The match remained even until the final whistle but the visitors held on for all three points and climbed to ninth.

Quilmes  0 – 1  Banfield

Unión  1 – 1  San Lorenzo
