It took a while but eventually Lanús found a way past Atlético Rafaela in La Forteleza thanks to a good debut by Román Martínez and a match-winning contribution from youngster Sergio González. El Granate had been superior to their visitors but it took until the 76th minute to make a breakthrough after great work by González down the right left debutant Román Martínez with a simple finish. With minutes remaining Oscar Benítez was bundled over when challenging a high ball into the box and Nicolás Aguirre slotted home the penalty. There was still time for González to tap in a third and after a difficult first half of the season Guillermo Barros Schelotto will be relieved to see his side make a winning start after the break.
Earlier in Parque Patricios, Huracán’s frustrating season continued after a goalless draw with Defensa y Justicia. Both sides remain right in the middle of the relegation battle and the point does little to help either.
