With the return of Carlos Tevez undoubtedly set to take the headlines this weekend, San Lorenzo at least ensured that Boca must defeat Quilmes if they are to remain top of the league at the end of the weekend. Caruso Lombardi’s struggling Arsenal side were the visitors to the Nuevo Gasómetro and found themselves outclassed from kickoff. Sebastián Blanco headed Los Cuervos in front after just seven minutes, finishing a move which he played a significant role after exchanging passes with Héctor Villalba and five minutes later the lead was doubled. Martín Cauteruccio expertly flicked the ball past Esteban Andrada after latching on to Pipi Romagnoli’s through ball and although the third goal came midway through the second half when Jorge Curbelo deflected the ball into his own net, the margin of victory could have been more.

In Banfield, a second half rally from Ricardo Zielinkski’s Belgrano saw them pick up another three points and climb to third in the table. Sergio Vittor gave the home side the lead from the penalty spot after referee Sergio Pezzotta spotted a shove on Facundo Castillón and so it remained until the 73rd minute when the always dangerous Lucas Zelarayán rifled an equaliser into the bottom corner. Having been behind for most the match within five minutes Belgrano were in front after goalscorer Vittor brought down Lucas Parodi for the games second penalty. Cristian Lema stepped up and sent Enríque Bologna the wrong way to seal a valuable victory on the road for Los Piratas.

San Lorenzo  3 – 0  Arsenal

Banfield  1 – 2  Belgrano
