Racing extended their impressive form in Avellaneda last night to bounce back from last weekend’s heavy defeat in Rosario and see off Sarmiento. Diego Milito diverted Francisco Cerro’s cross from the right past César Rigamonti in only the sixth minute and when Washington Camacho headed in a second just after the half hour mark it looked like it was to be an easy night for La Academia. Unable to completely kill the game off, Sarmiento snatched a goal back in second half injury time when Tobías Figueroa slammed a loose ball in from close range but the visitors were unable to add another. The victory moves Racing up to fourth and just four points off the lead.
Lanús continued their good start to the second half of the season with a come-from-behind victory over Colón in Santa Fe. Gustavo Villarruel skipped around Lanús goalkeeper Matías Ibáñez to add the finishing touch to an excellent passing move for the lead but almost immediately Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side were level when Sergio González superby volleyed in Víctor Ayala’s corner. Both sides had chances to win it but it was Ayala’s towering back-post header midway through the second half that proved decisive. Lanús struggled at times during the first half of the season but back-to-back wins since the restart see El Granate up into seventh.
