Rosario Central’s season is still nothing but a success but after an eighth draw in the last twelve matches it is easy to see where they are dropping points and why they have drifted five points away from Boca despite losing just once. Vélez were the visitors on Sunday to the Gigante de Arroyito and resolutely stuck to their task to deny Eduardo Coudet’s side victory. Even after having Leandro Somoza sent off with fifteen minutes remaining, Central were unable to find a way through.

In Victoria, Newell’s Old Boys were also left frustrated as they looked to carry their momentum from last weekend’s crushing victory over Racing in this match against Tigre. Despite dominating the possession, Lucas Bernardi’s boys lacked the final touch and with a third straight draw, Tigre continue to prove why they are such a difficult side to beat.

Finally in Temperley, Mauricio Pellegrino continued his good start to life as Independiente manager with a 1-0 win to record back-to-back victories for the first time this year. Temperley made life difficult at times for El Rojo but 21-year-old Martín Benítez produced another lively performance in attack and it was his right-wing cross that Lucas Albertengo headed for the match winner. It was Albertengo’s ninth goal of the season and with his old Atlético Rafaela strike partner Diego Vera now on board, he should have a little more support going forward. None of Independiente’s new signings featured last night and the club looks in much better shape than it did before the break.

Tigre  0 – 0  Newell’s Old Boys

Rosario Central  0 – 0  Vélez Sarsfield

Temperley  0 – 1  Independiente
