Six wins in a row has fired Pedro Troglio’s Gimnasia up the table and although Saturday’s visit of Crucero del Norte was one which they were fully expected to win, El Lobo were made to work for the three points. Nicolas Mazzola’s powerful finish just before half-time gave the home side a deserved lead but when they were unable to add to this and Rodrigo Lechner headed Crucero level with five minutes remaining it looked as though it would be a big two points dropped. Crucero del Norte were in uncharted territory having lost every single away match in the Primera but with the match in stoppage time, Ignacio Fernández produced a goal out of the top drawer. The club’s leading scorer this season cut inside onto his left foot, 25 yards from goal and let fly an unstoppable shot into the top corner to ensure victory and extend Crucero’s search for an away point.
Tigre’s mean defence earned them another valuable victory and ended a run of three draws when they visited Sarmiento de Junín. Sebastián Rincón’s rather scrappy effort ten minutes before half-time was enough to edge past their hosts and climb up into eighth. Sarmiento, meanwhile, need to get out of the slump that they are now in; eight matches without victory has seen Sergio Lippi’s side continue to slide towards the foot of the table.
In Santa Fe, the mid-table clash between Unión and Banfield ended goalless. Gio Simeone spurned what was perhaps the visitors best chance of the game late on but with little between them it was probably a fair result.
