Former San Lorenzo and current Albiceleste U20 star Ángel Correa has found the net for the first time for Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid after scoring a 54th minute goal in a 2-0 win over Numancia to retain the Memorial Jesús Gil y Gil on Saturday.
New Rojiblancos signing and former Racing star Luciano Vietto also made his debut for Cholo Simeone’s side, as two of Argentina’s brightest young talents were on show in a relatively one-sided affair in El Burgo de Osma.
Lucas Hernández opened the scoring on 51 minutes before Correa got in on the action a minute later, receiving the ball on the right before beating two defenders and slotting home into the far corner of the net in composed fashion.
Often compared to Carlos Tevez and Sergio Agüero, Angelito, along with compatriot Luciano Vietto, will look to help spearhead Cholo Simeone’s Rojiblancos title challenge, after relinquishing La Liga to Barcelona in May.
Both Correa and Vietto are expected to play important roles the Vicente Calderón this season.
Atlético play host to newly-promoted Las Palmas in the opening round of La Liga on August 23.
