Former Boca and Vélez Sarsfield striker Lucas Pratto gave a reminder of what Argentine football has been missing since his transfer from El Fortín to Atlético Mineiro last night with a blistering hat-trick in the Brasileiro. São Paulo were the visitors to Belo Horizonte and started brightly before Pratto’s lethal finishing turned the match on its head. The 27-year-old’s first was a little fortunate after his initial volley was saved but whilst on the ground with a combination of head and shoulder, Pratto was able to steer the ball into the net. What the first might have owed to luck, the second and third were simply good finishing. The second an instinctive flick from a left-wing cross and the third a superb chest control and volley to complete the hat-trick in 24 minutes. São Paulo did pull one back in the second half but the result leaves Atlético top of the table and Pratto one behind Santos’ Ricardo Oliveira as top goal scorer. Pratto had a brief foray in Europe when he signed for Genoa in 2011 but after his performances in Brazil and previously with Vélez it would be no surprise to see him get a second shot before too long.
