There was nothing between Racing and Belgrano when the two sides met earlier in Avellaneda but Sebastián Saja was the hero of the hour for La Academia after a second half penalty save. Neither side produced the level that they are capable of but it was an afternoon for Saja and Juan Carlos Olave, as both produced fine saves to keep the game goalless. Belgrano will understandly feel that they missed an opportunity after Cristian Lema saw his spot kick saved by Saja but given Racing’s home record an away point is still valuable. The result leaves both sides six points off the top with Racing only above in fifth courtesy of one extra goal scored.
In Bahía Blanca, Olimpo piled more woe on Newell’s Old Boys following their clásico defeat last weekend. David Vega gave the home side the lead a couple of minutes into the second half with a sensational left foot volley and with La Lepra unable to force an equaliser, Walter Acuña clipped the ball over Oscar Ustari minutes before time to put the result beyond doubt. It is an early test of Lucas Bernardi’s management with Newell’s looking increasingly fragile.
