Atlético Rafaela have been finding things tough this season in the Primera but showed no signs of difficulty in easily dispatching Primera B side Deportivo Merlo in Córdoba. Merlo have also been struggling in the league and a disastrous opening 45 minutes on Monday evening saw their hopes of a cup upset disappear. Franco Jominy tapped La Crema into a lead and although Leandro Rodríguez immediately equalised with a delighful lofted effort, all their hardwork was undone when Gabriel Ferro was shown a second yellow card. Leandro Godoy volleyed Rafaela back in front with the man advantage and only 20 seconds into the second half Cristian Gironi put the ball into his own net to extend the lead. A Nicolás Orsini header and an exquisite Osmar Ferreyra lob completed the rout and La Crema will now face San Lorenzo in the last 16.
