Racing returned to winning ways and moved up to fourth in the table after victory in Santa Fe against Unión. Oscar Romero’s heavily deflected effort with less than ten minutes played left Nereo Fernández in the Unión goal helpless and while that strike owed much to fortune, Gustavo Bou’s shortly after was a moment of inspiration. A corner from the left found its way all the way to Bou at the back post and after taking a touch to steady himself, the in-demand centre forward produced a stunning strike from an acute angle to double the lead. Unión pushed for a way back in and although they earlier hit the crossbar they had to wait until injury time for Leonardo Sánchez to head one back. It was too late to muster an equaliser and Racing picked up a much needed three points, if they are to keep pace and maintain a title challenge.
Later, Lanús and Estudiantes produced a pretty dull goalless draw which does little to help either side. Estudiantes finished with ten men after Juan Sánchez Miño was sent off and Lanús felt they should have had a penalty with minutes remaining but in truth there was little between the sides.
