There is still no separating those at the top but San Lorenzo required a dramatic late winner from Matías Caruzzo to avoid dropping two points at home to Crucero del Norte. Given the visitors atrocious away record it would have been a huge blow to Los Cuervos title aspirations particularly as later on Sunday, Boca Juniors defeated Arsenal as expected.

Crucero del Norte produced their best away performance of the season and came within two minutes of claiming a surprising point from their visit to the Nuevo Gasómetro but were ultimately undone by the league leaders. Julio Buffarini had blasted the home side in front midway through the first half and it appeared it would be another predicatable away defeat for the bus company. However, in first half stoppage time, José Dujaut’s skidding shot from outside the box found the bottom corner and they went in level at half time. Both sides had chances after break but just as it looked as though Crucero would hold on, Matías Caruzzo headed a late winner. The vital three points put San Lorenzo outright leaders until Boca played later in the day.

Boca did not make quite such hardwork of their three points and although the scorelines were the same, Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s side were good value for their win. Pablo Pérez smashed Boca into a first half lead from close range after Fernando Gago’s initial header was saved and although the visitors were dominating play, Arsenal did have their chances. Either side of half-time, Boca had the ball in the net and on each occasion the linesman flagged, when it was probably marginally onside but it mattered little. Shortly after, Carlos Tevez battled away along the byline and squared for Jonathan Calleri to double the lead.  Fernando Luna pulled a goal back deep into injury time and although Caruso Lombardi had a moan at the referee at full-time, Boca were good value for the points.

The results leave Boca and San Lorenzo tied at the top on 43 points with River six points behind but with two games in hand.

San Lorenzo  2 – 1  Crucero del Norte

Arsenal  1 – 2  Boca Juniors
